The first two photos from the gallery below were taken in class a few weeks ago. We all worked from paintings and drawings by famous artists as an exercise. I was going to continue working on the Gauguin self-portrait, but it was suggested to me that I leave it as is and start working on another version instead. That’ll come eventually. In the meantime, we had wonderfully warm spring weather, so after a not so successful attempt at working from Picasso, I thought it might be more fun to work from a living model, so I invited my father to sit for me on my balcony in the last hour or two of daylight for some quick sketches. Considering it’s the first time I’ve drawn him, I was quite happy with the results, and I think he was too. My only regret is that I didn’t capture my sweet Coco who was sitting on his lap while I was at it, but I guess that’ll keep for another time.
