I signed up for a painting summer class; 10 weekly day-long studies of various approaches to the human figure, from classic to contemporary. The first four weeks are dedicated to the technique called glazing, which is done with oil paints and is achieved by working with very thin, translucent layers of paint to achieve a rich effect with lots of depth and rich coloration. This technique was used by many classical painters, one example being Ingres with his famous Odalisque, but is still used by contemporary artists. Shown here is the first step of the project, in which we drew the model, Pascale, directly on the canvas using charcoal, then used a neutral tone to define areas of light and shade.

Extraordinary work by any measure !!!
